DESCRIPTION OF SHINKEN BUJUTSU SYSTEM

The Shinken Bujutsu Dojo is primarily based on Ko Ryu Bujutsu (old schools of martial arts). The primary martial arts taught at the Dojo are Jujutsu/Taijutsu (Grappling), Koppojutsu/Karate (Striking), Bojutsu (Stick Fighting), and Kenjutsu (Sword).  It is important that we try to constantly improve our Bujutsu, and not assume that because it is based on "Old School" that the techniques must be effective because they were so-called battle tested. When we do this the art will die and only remain as a Kata. Kata is very important to develop correct movement and the feeling of the techniques, but you must also learn to apply the techniques for a real situation.

The meaning of Shinken Bujutsu, its literal character by character translation would be - Shin, meaning truth - Ken, meaning sword - Bu, meaning warrior - and Jutsu, meaning method, but when combined the meaning changes. Therefore Shinken becomes sincere, real, or honest. Bujutsu simply means martial arts.
